NATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION COUNCIL (NAAC) is an autonomous body established by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country. It is an outcome of the recommendations of the National Policy in Education (1986) which laid special emphasis on upholding the quality of higher education in India. To address the issues of quality, the National Policy on Education (1986) and the Plan of Action (POA-1992) advocated the establishment of an independent national accreditation body. Consequently, the NAAC was established in 1994 with its headquarters at Bengaluru.
NAAC, Bengaluru has given five core values to be fulfilled by the Higher Education Institution. The values are

- Inculcating a Value System among Students
- Promoting the Use of Technology
- Quest for Excellence
In addition to these values the institution has given emphasis on the inculcation of human values among the students through various activities conducted throughout the academic year.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council advocates the establishment of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) by all the accredited institutions as a post accreditation quality sustenance activity.
IQAC
In pursuance of its Action Plan for performance evaluation, assessment and accreditation and quality up-gradation of institutions of higher education, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore proposes that every accredited institution should establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a post-accreditation quality sustenance measure; accordingly in Dec. 2003 IQAC has been established. Since quality enhancement is a continuous process, the IQAC will become a part of the institution’s system and work towards realization of the goals of quality enhancement and sustenance. The prime task of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic improvement in the overall performance of institutions.
Aims & Objectives
- To develop mechanism for improvements in academic and administrative performance.
- To promote quality culture in all areas of the institution.
- To become a catalytic agent in all-round progress of the institution.
- To serve as an agent and link of all types of certifications and assessment of the institution.
- To act as a change agent among all stakeholders of the institution.
- To contribute towards enhancement and integration among the activities of the institution.
Strategies
IQAC shall mechanism and procedures for: Ensuring timely, efficient and progressive performance of academic, administrative and financial task. Optimization and integration of modern methods of teaching, learning and evaluation. Ensuring the adequacy, maintenance and functioning of the support structure.
Functions
Some of the functions expected of the IQAC are:
- To channelize and systematize the efforts and measures of an institution towards academic excellence.
- To develop a mechanism to monitor, direct and supervise the working of various internal committees in the institute.
- To prepare a well-planned academic calendar to undertake curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
- To obtain feedback from all the stakeholders.
- To organize various types of programmes in the college for staff and students.
- To review the attainment of the course outcome.
- To promote research aptitude among the faculty and students.
